Earlier this season I posted an analysis comparing Manning, Brady, Mahomes, and Rodgers in order to determine the best quarterback of the QBR era. In this post, I'll focus on a postseason comparison between Brady and Mahomes. Which quarterback has had a bigger impact on his team’s success when it matters most?

I will compare the two QBs across both passing and rushing metrics. Brady has a total of 48 playoff games and Mahomes 20, so this analysis will be a per 17-games comparison.

Postseason Passing Comparison

Table 1: Brady vs. Mahomes Postseason Passing Comparison (17-Game Averages)

When adjusted for 17-game averages, Mahomes has a considerable edge over Brady in completion %, touchdowns, touchdown %, interceptions, interception %, yards per attempt, air yards per attempt, passer rating, net yards per attempt, adjusted net yards per attempt, fourth quarter comebacks, and game winning drives.

Brady is ahead of Mahomes in sacks taken, sack yards, and sack %.

Mahomes outperforms Brady by 10.19% on average, across all 20 passing metrics.

Postseason Rushing Comparison

Table 2: Brady vs. Mahomes Postseason Rushing Comparison (17-Game Averages)

In the rushing stat comparison, Mahomes dominates Brady in attempts, yards, touchdowns, first downs, and yards per attempt.

Brady comes out on top with 45% fewer fumbles (all fumbles, including those recovered by teammates) per 17 games.

Mahomes outperforms Brady by 300% on average, when it comes to postseason rushing statistics.

Overall, Mahomes has been a better postseason performer than Brady in nearly every category, with Brady outperforming him in just sacks and fumbles.
